the soundboard

..because we can

I just wanted to start a links page where people can share random videos, audio or links to sites that are doing some really whacked out, glitched out and spaced out things with electronics.

(if you want to add video links just copy and paste the html embed code and paste it in the comment box, add it and then click refresh to see if it's been added properly to the page)

Here's a yotube video I stumbled on today looking to give an example to the ceramics students for an instrument idea I have. Really good designed box, and very cool sounds!

I'm having a bit of a youtube surf today. Here's some more! This is probably one of the best nintendo bends I have seen. Most console bends just turn into chaos, but here Casper actually gets some really good order to the chaos that is apparent in bending!

Of course everybody has to see David Byrne's playing the factory video, very simple but very effective and great idea!

This harp is a great x/y gesture control using infra red light and sensors for a MIDI movement gesture device that uses your whole body. COOL!

Who knew corn flour and water could do such crazy shit on a speaker playing a sine wave tone?

folktek/arius blaze makes these amazing circuit bend and hardware hacked instruments. They look amazing and sound very very good. I've heard he's super slack at producing them though, and there are lots of complaints that he will take your cash but never produce the goods, but man they are so good!

Hey cool! I do actually want a nerd to teach me electronics so this will come in handy. Thanks for posting!

AWESOME!
The Handmade Music event series returns to Brooklyn, NY showcasing a talented collection of sonic experimentalists at Galapagos Art Space. A musical sewing machine, electro-country, the sound of blinking lights, and experimental gestural controllers were all on hand for the event.

Icecream,... icecream,... I scream....... "ARDUINO!"?

"Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software on running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP)."

Here's an example of what you can do:

Also here's an awesome web page for making trigger mechanisms to use with Arduino:

Casper's new finished project!!!!!! A beautifully complex Benjolin Synth that also has a mood light. Very very cool. Ditch your old lava lamp and one of these!!

From Casper:
"At the heart of the instrument are 2 Benjolin circuits designed by artist/engineer Rob Hordijk. You can see the 2 benjolin circuit boards in the photo above. What’s really exceptional about the Benjolin circuit is the breadth of sounds and effects that can be generated. It’s impossible in one sitting to explore all of it’s potential. I’ve left this on for the last 2 weeks and have found it to be consistently entertaining.
The light display utilizes 3 high intensity LEDs in red, green and blue. Combining these three colors allows for full spectrum color mixing. Signals taken from the audio circuitry are used to control the 3 LEDs independently. The lights can be configured in a variety of ways to respond to the circuitry. In some cases the relationship between what you hear and what you see will be very obvious, in others it will be less obvious or not at all. Regardless, the sound and light will always be coming form the same circuitry and are linked on some level. I find the varying degrees of connection to be one of the most intriguing aspects of the color display."
