How do I bloody control the surround panning in logic with my midi XY joystick????

Hello Brainy folk...

Please help me... This is soooooo annoying. I've RTFM'd to the max and have scoured countless forums far and wide and have also purchased some software that can be the answer... but my brain is too fried, I don't think I have installed it properly so it ain't working

ALL I WANT to do is to assign that ball in the surround panner to my joystick on my microkontrol midi keyboard. So I can move it around with fluidity without using the mouse. I've tried all that midi learn shenanigans in logic but the only parameter you can map is surround diversity.. Annoya Jackson.

Is it possible to assign the X & Y (joy stick) midi messages to control surround parameters?

The native modes which logic and Korg force onto your controller doesn't help either, but I have disabled this so I can map what ever to what ever now...

That said.... an answer to the lack of joystick action...(hahahah) was a program called Lc Xmu...Does any one use this?? Its a 'logic/mackie control' emulator that is supposed to open up the control possibilities between any generic controller and logic pro/abelton ect ect. If you use this program... how do you get it going?!!???

Any one who can help would be great.. I'm a midi-spastic-lisdexic... so any pointers will be appreciated muchly

sweet..

You tried the open sound control thing? I have this feeling that you might not be able to do because the parametres of x/y axes are very different to the surround parameters in Logic. Don't quote me, but if you automate in Logic, aren't there like 3 parameters it alters. Also, does logic see it's surround environment as a circle (whereas x/y) is a square?? It might be a case of 'telling' Logic what you want to do with it, instead of hoping that Logic does it by itself. Dunno...just thinking out aloud.

Do you have to use Logic? You might be able to do it with other software like MAX/MSP or PD.

Yeah I wanna use logic... NO Max Msp... too complicated for the amount of time I have available and I've done alot of stuff in logic already! This panning controlling is the last piece of my puzzle.

Regarding the midi reading of the joystick axis and its translation to Logic's 3 surround parameters... this is where the Lc Xmu software comes in.. Apparently.. But I'm yet to figure this out because at the mo, after installation - the software only talks to the korg and partially talks to logic... Its probably something really dumb and stupid that I have missed.. So if any one where is good at installing software can you give me a hand.. I'm going to post my problem on the opus locus forum but they'll probably lynch me for being such a newbie to this!!..

I don't know anything about Lc Xmu. And I'm you've tried this, but it's the only way I know of midi mapping in logic:

Go: Preferences>general>controller assignments

Click on the easy mode.

Move the surround panner around.

then move your joystick.

Haven't got a midi controller on me at the moment so I don't know if it works.

good luck.
