like facebook and myspace, this site lets you add people as 'friends'. it makes sense on those sites, cos they have millions of members, most of whom are strangers to one another. selecting someone as a friend makes it easy to know when they do stuff, and is often required even to be able to see someone's profile.
here it's different. most of us know most of the rest of us, and anyway we're visible to each other on here whether we're 'friends' or not. you can't have a private profile on this site. which raises the question, What's the point of having friends?
me i think it's good to be friends with everyone, just cos it makes inviting people to events easier. at some point in the next couple of years you're gonna put on something you wanna invite everyone to. when that happens you're gonna go to the 'events' page and type in the details and then you're gonna see this:
you know what happens next? you say a
very rude word cos you realise you hafta sort through all your fucking email addresses to find everyone from sound art. if you even
have all their email addresses. then you've gotta paste all the fucking addresses into the fucking box.
recipe for fun times? nope.
HOWEVER: if you'd made friends with everyone you'd be able to just do this instead:
how easy is that? it's real easy.
