5.8.1 is now officially released, fixing the issue with authorizing older Kompakt libraries.

Well you're the guru, but I'm pretty sure it was only K10 or K11 that had a voucher for Kontakt 5.6 or something, wasn't it?
Not that I recall. K5 was a part of Komplete since Komplete 8 till today, K5.6 was not a paid update, you just got it with K10/11.

Re: Native Instruments Session Strings Pro 2 & Komplete 12 rumours/leak [now inc TRK-01]

I'm not so positive. For such a long-awaited update there will likely be more than one battery of beta tests (as in, several builds would need to be tested, and that could be anywhere from 2 to x), and there's usually a month or two of testing per build... I don't see K12 out this year, but that's j...

Re: Steinberg announces "VST2 is coming to an end"

Yeah I think all the non-Steinberg users are not going to be too bad off. Hell, Reaper and Sonar still support DirectX plugins, haha. VST2 is not going anywhere. Kinda like MIDI. :)

Re: Steinberg announces "VST2 is coming to an end"

There's no MIDI learn, you have to announce each MIDI CC as an automatable parameter in order to "hack it in". Which, for something like Zebra, is kinda horrid, because Zebra recognizes the originating MIDI channel, so you'd need to reserve 16*128 automation parameters JUST for MIDI learn. This is n...

Re: Steinberg announces "VST2 is coming to an end"

It'd be nice if Steiny didn't butcher certain good things VST2 had, like MIDI learn and support for Program Change etc.

Re: Prophet X

I was a bit tongue in cheek on that one. Dunno, somehow 8dio's sampling never impressed me. I can't quite put my finger on it. To me it feels like the better part of Tonehammer went to Soundiron, not 8dio.

Re: Prophet X

It's not fully sample based, it has digital (DSP) oscillators as well (like those in Prophet-12). The filters sound absolutely yummy on this one. But yeah it only has 150 GB of samples because 8dio cannot sample things efficiently, haha. :P

Re: UVI Falcon 1.5 and Workstation 3 updates

UI refreshes just aren't the most important thing in Reaper - I think it's designed in a way to never drop out audio as much as it's possible, UI and everything else be damned. (That would be the "upside" Guy is mentioning.)

Re: UVI Falcon 1.5 and Workstation 3 updates

Unfortunately this is not handled asynchronously (just like how there's no background loading) in Falcon/UVIW. Given that Reaper itself completely hangs during this process, it seems to me that Reaper shares some of the blame here too. Even if I run the FX in a dedicated process. Really, blocking t...

Re: UVI Falcon 1.5 and Workstation 3 updates

Looking forward to seeing if overall performance of Workstation has improved. The Bohemian has always been painful to use in terms of UI performance -- at least with Reaper. The main problem here is Reaper's undo. It's saving the whole plugin chunk there, and for Bohemian, since it has so many samp...

Re: NI Kontakt - update to 5.8.0 [WITH WARNING]

Anyone still using those old Kompakt-based libraries, there's a workaround now. Find NativeAccess.xml and move it out of that folder somewhere. Now RA, EWQLSO, Stormdrum and others will work just fine. However, some of the most recent KP libs needing 5.7.3+ will not be shown in Libraries tab then (l...

Versus HALion and especially Falcon, it definitely is. HISE is inching in, though. Kinda hard to properly compare with PLAY and Vienna which are closed systems.

Re: NI Kontakt - update to 5.8.0 [WITH WARNING]

Thankfully args/returns can be hacked in with a few extra variables, ehehe. SublimeKSP does that nicely. I won't argue that it wouldn't be useful to actually have them implemented. But, pretty much all devs are on SublimeKSP now so... I'd rather NI adds new functionality to KSP, and extend what can ...

Re: NI Kontakt - update to 5.8.0 [WITH WARNING]

KSP does have proper functions - albeit without arguments, returns and recursions.

But Lua is not really THAT slow. It's much faster than Python. Still, even JIT compiled (as it is in Falcon and HALion 6), it doesn't match up to KSP...

Re: NI Kontakt - update to 5.8.0 [WITH WARNING]

There's some work done in debugging area. Can't say any more details.

KSP isn't going anywhere, I think. It's still more efficient than Lua for doing the same things with realtime priority (privately confirmed to me by Blake from Spitfire).

Do you know if they plan to allow Add Library locally for NI stuff? Absolutely no idea. I agree that it would be really useful. Also, Kontakt's team didn't have the same product designer throughout the years. Over on KVR, Evil Dragon says there is an error with Kontakt 5.8.0 and some very old libraries not working. Fix on the way in 5.8.1, so a good idea to hold fire for now. Just an asterisk, I don't think I said that the fix is coming FOR SURE in 5.8.1, but that NI is aware of it and that we will PROB...

Re: NI Kontakt - update to 5.8.0

But, it is quite interesting how many Kontakt users are OK, with this amount of stagnation, and years of waiting for a new version, I'm personally not very happy about that. Really? You call having this many subversions "stagnation"? That is clearly a very wrong way to look at things. Kontakt 5 dev...
